Reveal- a Cuff

This cuff took it's time coming into this world.  I let it happen, no sketching or composition planning, the knife ran smoothly along the hide. I tooled slowly, and it sat on my workbench for weeks before I started painting it.  When I got stuck, not seeing the end, it rested a few more, until finally, I saw how it wanted to be.

Every so often a piece will be like this.  Slow, steady, no rushing to the finish line of sealant and snaps. I used to struggle mightily the entire time.  I'm getting better at recognizing these sweet souls, and their lessons. When I keep staring, leather drying under my knife and stamps, paint drying in the tray, deep breaths are taken and expelled.  I put the piece gently to the side, to wait. Patience is taught and I'm learning to respect it.

It's about life, and cellular regeneration. It reflects the moon in all of us. Light streaming out of our souls.  It sings of cool waters and soothing nights.

In Gratitude Parts 1 & 2

A love letter to my fellow artists.

Dear beloved souls,

You are not alone, I see you.

Keep making, keep writing, keep struggling to express that push behind your heart, the spark in your mind, the good fight in your eyes.

Weather the storm.

Wake up in the morning, stay up late into the night. Savor the afternoon. Greet your muse like an old friend, learn to lay fallow when she takes a vacation (perhaps... you need one too?).  Pour yourself some tea, drink some water, don't forget to eat.  Get out of your studio and doodle.  Rest.

Listen.

Breathe.

Create.

So much love,

Cat
