And this… This, still, after weeks of it being painted, I still can’t believe I made it. I am so proud of my hands, for being slow and delicate, of my eyes for pulling out the colorful details and for being smart enough to upgrade my paints last year! I couldn’t have done this with my old, basic paints, that is for sure. When I stepped back from painting it, I had to leave the house, convinced that it was clumsy, ruined, and would probably have to be painstakingly scraped off. Then I came back, with sunlight and fresh air behind me, and realized that my inner critic was a damn fool.
This feather was perfect, just needed a few finishing brush strokes and then it was done. And as near perfect as I can ever hope to make a feather look in leather.
