On Giving

Sharing has always been a part of who I am.

A natural penchant to 'make people happy' and four younger siblings will do that.

We like to joke that I got all the gold stars for sharing in preschool.

(... that is a joke, right Mom?)

I've realized lately that I want-need to share my art with the world.  Local art markets and the online shop isn't enough. I want to truly share what I make.  To say thank you to the universe for bringing me inspiration, be it from nature or my fellow humans (Hello there!).

The Gratitude Cocoons you've seen here on the blog are how I'm acknowledging and fulfilling this internal drive. It's scratching the itch, but I want it to grow into something larger, more love-filled. I want to help others reach out.  Here's what I'm going to do:

Trust.

I'm going to trust you.

My next three Gratitude cocoons will be for you to claim for someone else.  Someone in your world (real life or internet life, as long as you can send me their mailing address) who needs to know that they're seen, heard, loved, held. It can be anonymous, or you can let them know who sponsored their cocoon.  Let me know if there’s a message you want included in the package. You pick the base color, and I do the rest. I create a cocoon in honor of your message to the receiver.  I'll make them in the order they are received, one going out each month until they're done. You'll get the tracking number when it’s sent, so you know it’s been done.

So here’s the tricky part (at least, it's the sticky/tricky part for me).

I'm balancing on a double edged sword.  I need to share this work with the world, while at the same time be able to support my own world as well.  Every piece I've ever put into my shop helps build momentum to the goal of supporting my little family with my art.  In that respect, while these are "Pay What You Can', I'm asking that the minimum given is $30. That helps cover supplies and shipping. I’m giving the time and good vibes. If you're called to share more, know that it’s going right back into the studio.

Technically this is how it works:

There are 3 listings for Gratitude Cocoons in the shop for 'free'.  Check one out with the shop follow the normal purchasing steps, and then head back here and click on the Gratitude Project button below to complete our agreement.  I trust you.

Selling art is a business, sharing art is my privilege and gift.

Grace

Being graceful can be awkward.  It can seem downright impossible.

We all lack grace, here and there, in movement and in heart.

I know I clench up so hard some days that the thought of moving through that brick wall of frustration seems impossible.  It reflects in my physical world- I drop things, spilling tea or beads, banging shins on tables that haven't been moved for years.  I've learned to stay away from the tooling bench on days like those.  Eventually, I move on auto pilot into self-care, a bath, the gym or some yoga, stitching small things onto other small things, writing it all out, screaming in the car.  Sometimes, I'm particularly in tune, and I do these things with purpose, examining the trail that lead me to that point, backtracking, finding my own north once more.

It comes back, the Grace we need to move through the world with an open heart, willing to listen and support those who need it.

Reconnect with yourself, and grace will find you.
