This cocoon was made for one of my favorite people. Woman, Wife and Mother to her thriving art business and family. She’s an inspiration to keep smiling, keep working, dreaming, growing. I adore her and often wish we could pinch the coasts of this country together (sorry, mid-west) and have tea, walks and work shoulder to shoulder.
I tucked tiger's eye in the top basin, and rose quartz in the belly, studding the body with peach freshwater pearls and more seed beads & messy french knots that I can count. I kept thinking this cocoon was finished, leaving it rest for a few days, coming back and realizing that it needed More.
This cocoon kept me working longer than expected, taking the most time out of all the pods I've made so far. I finished stitching as winter broke and flowers began to push through the leaves in earnest. I call this cocoon The Emergence, a nod to the spring, and to my friend's astounding evolution in her art and life. It's winging its way across the country now, and I can't wait to hear how it fits into her home.
Even when the thunder rolls in, the sun keeps shining, keeps rising and setting, we keep breathing and moving forward, even when it feels like we're falling.
My love to you, sweet Sunny.
